What Aurora Hive Live is
The editor directly on the finished website, for everyone who only changes something occasionally.

What is Aurora Hive Live?
The editor directly on the published website: click a text, change it, save — without going through a content management system.
It is intended for people who change things rarely and only in small ways: an opening time, a phone number, a sentence that is no longer true. Anyone who first had to learn an admin for that will not change it, and then the wrong number is still there two years later.
What is the difference from the live editor in Aurora Hive Sites?
- The live editor is part of the admin and works on the draft. It is used by people who have access to Aurora Hive Sites anyway.
- Aurora Hive Live works on the published page and is intended for people without admin access.
Both show the page as it looks. The difference is who uses it and what is being worked on.
What does the name Aurora Hive Live stand for?
For Autonomous Unified Realtime Authoring.
More important than the acronym is the distinction: Aurora Hive Live is not the same as Aurora Hive Sites. Aurora Hive Sites is the content management system, Aurora Hive Live the small editor that Aurora Hive Sites ships with the published page.
Who may change things with Aurora Hive Live?
Anyone who has their own account — with their own name and their own password. An account belongs to exactly one person; a shared password for everyone no longer exists.
Where the accounts are managed depends on the type of set-up:
- Website from Aurora Hive Sites: there, in the website’s settings.
- Installation on your customer’s web space: directly on the page, under “Accounts”. There, administrators create new accounts and reset passwords.
Every password needs at least 12 characters.
What someone may change depends on the scope of their account: there is a restricted translator mode in which only texts can be changed and the structure of the page remains protected.
How do I get into editing mode?
On the published page, via the pen; you then sign in with your name and your password.
The sign-in lasts a few hours and then ends by itself. Anyone who changes their password is signed out everywhere and has to sign in again — on other devices too.
There is also a way via the address bar — open the page with the suffix ?aw_edit=1. That is the way to go if the pen does not appear for once, and the basis for a bookmark that opens editing mode directly.
Is there an introduction to Aurora Hive Live?
Yes. The first time you open it, a tour in four steps runs, which points to real places on the page and waits in between.
Each step shows a small animated diagram of the gesture — tap, get a suggestion, swap an image, colours — and a drawn pointer flies to the real target and demonstrates the click until you click yourself.
You can repeat it at any time via “? Tour”. Anyone who does not tolerate motion gets the calm version — this follows the system setting.
What is Aurora Hive Live well suited for, and what not?
Well suited for: changing an opening time, correcting a phone number, replacing a sentence, swapping an image, maintaining a language version.
Not suited for: rebuilding a page, adding sections, changing the design — that is what Aurora Hive Sites is for.
The rule of thumb: whatever a person would correct in a minute belongs in Aurora Hive Live. Everything you sit down for belongs in the content management system.
How long does it take someone to get to grips with it?
Minutes. The first time it is opened, a tour in four steps runs, which points to real places on the page and waits until you click.
That is the real purpose of the tool: anyone who first had to learn a program to correct a text will not correct it — and then the wrong number is still there two years later.
Does Aurora Hive Live work on a phone?
For short text corrections, yes — you open the page, sign in and type.
It is not comfortable: the fields open at the side, and on a narrow screen it gets cramped. For anything that involves more than one sentence, a larger screen is the better choice.
Does the editor need a user account?
No account in the content management system — but an account of their own for this one website, with a name and password.
That is the difference that matters: a customer who wants to change a sentence does not have to be invited to Aurora Hive Sites, trained and managed. They get an account that only applies to their page.
You decide what they may change — there is a restricted translator mode for people who should only touch texts.
What no longer exists: a password in the page’s source code, and a shared password for several people.
When should I rather not enable Aurora Hive Live?
When a wrong sentence would be expensive. Changes made via Aurora Hive Live go directly onto the public page without an approval step — there is no draft in between.
For pages with prices, legal texts or commitments, the route via Aurora Hive Sites is the right one: there with a draft, preview and publishing.
A middle way that often fits: enable Aurora Hive Live, but agree which pages may be touched with it and which may not.
In which types of set-up is Aurora Hive Live available?
In two. They differ in where the website is hosted — not in what editing looks like.
1. On a website from Aurora Hive Sites. Aurora Hive Live is part of it there and is switched on in the website’s settings. Nothing to install, nothing to set up; you manage the accounts in Aurora Hive Sites.
2. On your customer’s web space. An existing website hosted elsewhere becomes editable with two files and one line in the source code. The prerequisite is a web space with PHP and HTTPS. The accounts are then kept there, on the web space, and are managed directly on the page. There is no server on our side for this.
What is different in set-up 2:
- A licence is needed per domain.
- You manage the accounts on the page itself, not in an admin.
- Changes are saved into the HTML file, with a backup copy before every save. There is no full change history as in Aurora Hive Sites.
- There are no AI text suggestions — they belong to Aurora Hive Sites.
You can tell which set-up applies to you by where the website is hosted. If in doubt, ask the person who looks after it.
